Journal

The MAGiC Journal, a quarterly publication with a readership in excess of 450. This publication is an excellent source of news of the field as well as articles authored by local experts in such areas as Alzheimer's Disease, legal issues, specific conservatorship skills, complex financial management issues, and much more. Members receive the Journal free.

Networking

Network with other guardianship professionals at membership events including monthly breakfast meetings which are an excellent opportunity for seeking consultation on complex problems from one's peers. Conservators, attorneys, social workers, and any other interested members are invited to attend.

Standards of Practice

The development of the Standards of Practice includes a Conservatee Bill of Rights and a Conservator Code of Ethics. While not legislatively sanctioned, MAGiC expects its members to conduct their practice in compliance with the Standards. Other agencies have also adopted the Standards and expect their staff to abide by them. The Standards are distributed to all MAGiC members and copies are available to the general community.

Legal Affairs

Whether informing members and the community of changes in the law, submitting an Amicus Curie brief to the appellate court, being represented on ad hoc committees to address pertinent issues, or testifying to the Minnesota Legislature regarding proposed laws, MAGiC is a definite presence in the field of guardianship and conservatorship, and does not hesitate to get involved in legislative matters affecting its membership or vulnerable adults.

Annual Conference

The Annual Conference allows participants to learn the newest information as well as brush up on older knowledge and skills, all while networking with others interested in similar issues. All interested professionals are invited to attend; MAGiC members receive a registration discount.

Speakers and Seminars

Speakers and seminars, held throughout the year, take the form of an educational session on topics such as "Selling Real Estate in the Context of Conservatorship," and "Grieving: Personal Work-Professional Challenge." Arranged for convenience to busy professionals, the meetings are generally held over the lunch hour, either as a brown-bag lunch or more often, with lunch provided by the site hosting the seminar.

Referral Source

The names of professional conservators and attorneys who are members of MAGiC are available to the public. While not an endorsement of these individuals, the community can be reassured that attorneys and conservators who are MAGiC members have committed to adhere to MAGiC's Standards of Practice and participate in a professional organization where there are opportunities for continuing education, peer consultation, expectations of how to conduct their practice, and community involvement, rather than isolation in their work.
